America Is Rediscovering the Great Lakes

For years, many of us watched people flock to Florida, Texas, Arizona, and the Carolinas. Bigger houses. Warmer weather. Endless sunshine.

But something interesting is happening.

People are starting to look back toward the Great Lakes.

In Realtor.com's latest Hottest Housing Markets report, Erie ranked as the #2 hottest real estate market in the entire country. That's not #2 in Pennsylvania. Not #2 in the Northeast.

#2 in America

Even more interesting? Erie isn't alone.

Several of the nation's hottest housing markets are clustered around the Great Lakes and the Northeast, proving that buyers are looking for something different than they were just a few years ago.

Why Erie?

The answer isn't just low prices.

It's value.

Where else can you spend the morning on a sandy beach, watch a sunset over one of the world's largest freshwater lakes, kayak after work, enjoy a local winery on the weekend, and still find homes that cost a fraction of what buyers pay in many parts of the country?

Our community offers something that's becoming harder to find: affordability paired with an exceptional quality of life.

We're close enough to Cleveland, Buffalo, and Pittsburgh for weekend adventures while enjoying a slower pace, less traffic, and the kind of neighborhoods where people still wave from their front porches.

Harvest Time!

August is one of the best months to enjoy everything our local farms have to offer. Farm stands and markets are overflowing with sweet corn, tomatoes, peppers, peaches, blueberries, and other seasonal favorites that simply taste better when they're picked close to home.

With the recent food safety concerns involving some commercially distributed produce, many people are rediscovering the value of buying local.

Knowing where your food comes from, supporting family farms, and enjoying produce at its freshest is a win for everyone.

Whether you stop by a roadside stand, visit a neighborhood market, or shop at one of our locally owned grocers, it's a wonderful time of year to fill your kitchen with Great Lakes-grown goodness.

And if your own garden is producing more than you can eat, consider putting a little summer away for winter.

I'm feeling inspired to freeze fresh corn off the cob, stock up on local berries, and preserve a few vegetables while they're at their peak. There's something incredibly satisfying about opening a bag of August sweet corn on a snowy January evening.

Real Estate Snapshot

The market remains competitive, but it's becoming a little healthier than the frenzy of the past few years.

For sellers, well-prepared homes continue to attract strong interest.

For buyers, more inventory means more choices and a little more breathing room when making one of life's biggest decisions.

If you've been wondering whether this is the right time to buy, sell, invest, or simply understand what your home is worth, I'd be happy to help you make sense of today's market—without any pressure.

One Last Thought

I've always believed Erie was one of the country's best-kept secrets.

Apparently, it's becoming a little less secret every day.

Whether you've lived here your entire life or just recently discovered the beauty of the Great Lakes, there's never been a better time to appreciate everything this region has to offer.

See you around the lake,

Deb
